Project Scope & Services Provided: | Challenge: A leading French Logistics firm contacted SAS for a solution to safely transport bathroom pods from Dubai to Kazakhstan for a major oil and gas client. They have secured a contract to ship 3500 bathroom pods which were supposed to be stuffed and packed in 500 containers and shipped to Kazakhstan.Theย contents of the 1st 10 containers, stuffed and packed by another company was found to be completely damaged when it reached the destination and had to be shipped back to UAE. The customer wanted o ensure that the fragile contents of the pod ( ceramic tiles) remains intact during shipping. Solution:ย The cargo required specialized packing & lashing as multimodal transportation inclusive of long distance road transportation was used to ship the cargo to its final destination. SAS engineers studied the multimodal transportation routes, travelled to Kazakhstan did a demo run on road to be used for the shipment to inspect road conditions. With the help of a shockwatch impact recorder the SAS team monitored and recorded the impacts which the cargo will absorb during the road transportation and proposed a unique solution to secure and lash the bathroom pods. Results: Based on data from the impact recorders SAS engineers ย developed a customized packing & lashing solution to safely transport the cargo. All the 490 containers were shipped successfully and no damages were reported from the discharge site at the destination. |
